However, there are some things to consider to be sure you pick out the right wood flooring, and we've compiled a list of tips to help simplify the process. Different tones for different rooms
Light colors give an airy and contemporary feeling. It's also easy to coordinate around a light floor. They also don't show scratches much, and they'll camouflage dust.
Dark colors are sophisticated, dramatic and can be used with contrasting colors to make a stunning statement. (A dark floor with red drapes, oh my!) They will hide dirt, but balance is critical; if walls and furnishings are unclear, the room can seem dark and gloomy.
Some things to think about
1. Consider your lifestyle: If you have a light-haired pet that sheds, a dark floor may not be for you, and the opposite is true if the pet has dark hair. Likewise, if you have kids or any high traffic that makes the floors more prone to scratches, you may want to avoid dark floors.
2. Think about the wood. If you're planning to use a stain, wood with an open pore, like red oak, is more porous and accepts stains.
3. Some of the most popular colors include cool tones; gray (any shade); blond; caramel; honey/copper; the darkest darks, like ebony; and whitewashed wood.
4. Harmonize: Nothing needs to be an exact match, but any color you select should work with your existing furnishings and colors, so the decor has a cohesive look.
